Noel Edmonds

One of the BBC's most iconic and enduring entertainers

Noel is no longer resident in the UK but continues to enjoy a very high profile here. His Dubai-based media business operates over 1,200 online radio stations, and his hugely successful platform You.Radio has established him as a major force in global media.

Noel and his wife Liz farm over 1,000 acres in New Zealand and own an award-winning vineyard, restaurant, café and old-world pub. An experienced helicopter pilot, former Top Gear presenter, racing driver and Le Mans entrant, Noel's car collection is one of the many attractions at River Haven in Ngatimoti.

Biography

Born in 1948 in Ilford, Essex, Noel Edmonds is the only child of Dudley and Lydia Edmonds. Educated at Brentwood Public School, he auditioned for Radio Luxembourg in 1968 and his radio career began in November of that year.

He joined Radio 1 in 1970 and by 1973 had taken over the prestigious Breakfast Show from Tony Blackburn — a show he hosted for the next five years. In 1976 he launched Multicoloured Swap Shop, which entertained a generation for six years.

His Saturday night institution Noel's House Party ran for eight series and 167 shows, winning a BAFTA for Best Light Entertainment in 1992. The Mr Blobby character had a number one record and the fastest-selling video of all time.

On 31 October 2005, Noel made his TV comeback presenting Deal or No Deal on Channel 4, broadcast six afternoons a week for ten years and earning a BAFTA nomination. He has since appeared on Sky's Are You Smarter Than A 10-Year-Old?, Noel's HQ, and joined I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! in 2018.
